Colorado

What:  The city of Longmont, CO is voting on Ballot Question 300:

Shall the City of Longmont Home Rule Charter be amended by adding a new article XVI to prohibit within the City of Longmont the use of Hydraulic Fracturing to extract oil, gas, or other hydrocarbons, and prohibit within the City of Longmont the storage in open pits or disposal of solid or liquid wastes created in connection with the hydraulic fracturing process, including but not limited to flowback or produced wastewater and brine?

When: Now (this November election cycle)

Who: Our Health, Our Future, Our Longmont

How: citizen volunteers gathered signatures to get Question 300 on the ballot and are now working to get it passed (more details to come).

Gov. Hickenlooper threatens to sue Longmont 

 

New Jersey

What:  The New Jersey assembly passed measure A575 by 56-19.  The bill "prohibits treatment, discharge, disposal, or storage of wastewater, wastewater solids, sludge, drill cuttings or other byproducts from natural gas exploration or production using hydraulic fracturing".  Tragically, Governor Christie vetoed the bill.

Ohio

What: Cincinnati City Council voted unanimously to ban fracking injection well sites within the city limits, making Cincinnati the first city in Ohio to restrict toxic fracking wastewater from being pumped underground.

When: August 2012

Who: Southwest Ohio NO Frack Forum, a coalition of multiple non-profit organizations and local citizens working in tandem to protect vital water sources and infrastructure from dangerous fracking activities. Through advocacy and political action, the coalition seeks to maintain the health, safety, and welfare of citizens throughout Southwest Ohio.

How: The Cincinnati City Council voted unanimously to....(still researching)
